Lord Sugar shakes up the competition with a Celebrity Apprentice first

It’s no secret that most celebrities love being in front of the camera, so they should have no problems nailing the next challenge on Celebrity Apprentice.

Lord Sugar shows up — on screen rather than in person — to brief the celebrities on the task.

The teams must record their own live-to-air 60-second infomercial. The team that produces the most effective infomercial, as judged by Lord Sugar, will win the challenge and $20,000 for their Project Manager’s charity.

But it seems Lord Sugar is a little bored with the competition and says “it’s time to blow this stuff apart.”

Team Collaborate and Team Innovate are getting a shakeup. Advisors Janine Allis and Nick Bell reshuffle the teams and select the Project Managers.

Carla from Bankstown is leading Team Innovate, which now includes besties Darren McMullen and Jarrod Scott as well as Jean Kittson, Bronte Campbell and Benji Marshall.

Team Collaborate’s Project Manager, Vince Colosimo will take charge of celebs including Turia Pitt, Samantha Jade, Ronnie Caceras and Will and Woody.

If you thought the team restructure was a competition shakeup, think again.

Lord Sugar is about to completely flip the game on its head.

In a Celebrity Apprentice first, he’s giving the fired celebrities—Beck Zemek, Eloni Vunakece, Gamble Breaux and Jodi Gordon—a chance to reclaim their position. And he’s doing it all behind the other celebrities’ backs.

“This has never happened before we Celebrity Apprentice,” Gamble says.

Lord Sugar meets the fired celebrities and informs them they will become a new team: Team Redemption.

Team Redemption must also produce an infomercial. But their objective is slightly different. They’re not competing against the other teams, but instead against each other. The best performing team members are in with a chance to re-enter Celebrity Apprentice.

“If this thing is a complete mess up, none of you are going back in the process,” Lord Sugar snaps at them.

The Challenge

Carla is keen to stick to her expertise and go the comedy route for Team Innovate’s infomercial selling gym equipment, but Benji isn’t convinced.

“Gym equipment and funny don’t go together,” Benji tells the cameras.

Advisor Janine steps in to remind the team to look inwards.

“They’ve got an Olympian and a sports superstar, so for them it should be a no brainer,” she says.

After a shaky start, Team Innovate changes gears and Carla steps up as director. She decides to use Darren’s abilities to present the infomercial, Bronte and Benji’s sporting status to draw consumers in and Jarrod’s washboard abs to, to… wait what was the purpose of this again?

Oh that’s right, Carla just wants to oil Jarrod up for the camera.

“Sorry I’m getting a bit carried away,” Carla says with her hands slicked in oil.

It’s action time for Team Innovate and everything goes off without a hitch. “I was like a proud parent,” Carla beams.

With an extensive background in TV and movies, Vince is directing Team Collaborate’s infomercial advertising the Sav-a Flav-a, a rubber food covering that’s an alternative to plastic wrap.

While there’s no doubt that Vince is impassioned about the Sav-Flav-a, his directing style is well, a little disorderly.

“It’s safe to say that Vince’s style of being Project Manager is very chaotic and in the moment,” Ronnie tells the camera.

Even advisor Nick is worried things are getting a little too out of hand and says, “I am massively concerned that Vince is losing control.”

This challenge is a live TV infomercial and the teams only get one shot at recording. So timing is super important.

“Having spent a lot of time with Vince Colosimo, he’s a funny guy but time is not his friend,” Ronnie says.

“I know what the time is,” Vince reassures himself.

Everything is chaos as the cameraman counts down, and unbeknownst to Team Collaborate, they miss the on-air cue.

Team Collaborate huddle together and celebrate what they think is a success. Ronnie even goes as far as to say they “smashed it out of the ballpark”.

This is rough to watch, they just look so happy. Who’s going to break the bad news to them?

Nick pulls Vince to the side and says, “You started filming the 60 seconds and you guys weren’t ready, you literally lost six or seven seconds.”

But Vince says that’s not how he understood the challenge.

“I’m a little bit disappointed now because I’ve heard the time was going from when the cameraman said three, two, one,” he explains.

“I’m really pissed off, I don’t want to talk anymore.”

Usually this is when we’d head over to the Boardroom but we need to check on how secret Team Redemption is tracking.

They’re working hard to produce an infomercial to sell face cream. And everyone’s pulling their weight, well most of them.

“I think Beck, Jodi and I are definitely a team, but Gamble’s just too off with it,” Eloni says.

Lord Sugar makes his own observations of the Real Housewife, “Gamble is a hot mess, she needs to focus.”

The Boardroom

This Boardroom meeting runs a little differently, rather than Lord Sugar doing the talking he lets the teams’ infomercials speak for themselves.

Team Innovate’s infomercial plays and Lord Sugar describes it as “very, very good”. Even Vince thinks their ad is “slick”.

Things don’t go so well for Team Collaborate who as we know missed their cue and Lord Sugar doesn’t hold back.

“That’s a disaster,” he says of their infomercial.

Lord Sugar doesn’t even bother deliberating and immediately hands the win over to Team Innovate, handing Carla $20,000 for her charity. And Vince must face the firing squad and bring back two team members. He regrettably takes in Turia and Ronnie.

Turia immediately pipes up to take responsibility, “I should’ve started earlier and then we would’ve been within the 60 seconds allocated.”

Vince says it’s not Turia’s fault at all and the two go back and forth taking the bullet for each other. Ronnie on the other hand has no qualifications throwing a teammate under the bus, and Vince is the one who takes the hit.

“What actually happened was, we were taking direction from Vince. He was the one calling action. We did not all of a sudden expect the cameraman to be counting,” Ronnie explains.

And just like that Vince’s fate is sealed.

“I’m just gonna cut straight to the chase here mate, you’re fired,” Lord Sugar points his finger at Vince.

That would usually be the end of the Celebrity Apprentice episode, but let’s not forget about Team Redemption.

Lord Sugar’s assistant returns to Team Collaborate and Team Innovate in the lounge. “You won’t want to miss this,” she says as she turns the TV back on.

There’s Beck, Eloni, Gamble and Jodi returning to the Boardroom.

A roar of “OH MY GOD”, “WHAT” and “SHUT UP” echoes out from the celebs watching on.

But alas we must wait till the next episode of Celebrity Apprentice to find out which of the fired celebrities will claw their way back into the competition.
